Week 13 | Uganda

Image
As I sit here reflecting on week 13, enjoying the relaxing Saturday listening to the birds chirp and watching the sun shine in the windows of the guesthouse, the song "friend of God is playing in the background. And I just had this overwhelming sense of love and peace flow through me. The lyrics just popped out at me as I was wondering what to type in the post. I don't feel like a lot happened this week and so I didn't think I'd have much to say but God knows how to speak to a person at the right time and when we're least expecting it.  "Who am I that You are mindful of me that You hear me when I call Is it true that You are thinking of me How You love me its amazing" I know that these words are talking about the Father, but I find them so true in my earthly relationships right now as well. I feel undeserving of the thoughts, prayers, unless love & encouragement people have poured into me while being in Uganda. From surprise packages &a

Week 12 | Uganda

Image
The rainy season is in full swing these days! With some days raining inches at a time! I don't really know because we don't have a gauge but it's just a whole lot of rain and the roads are starting to washout in some areas. And it always makes for interesting adventures when driving to and from school. Like earlier this week.. It had rained so heavily one night and there was just water everywhere and we knew the roads were going to be bad. So to be on the cautious side we took the longer route to school to by pass the swamp area that the usual road pass through. This road was also not good and quite slippery, but we made it. Made it so close to school and here sits a big sugar cane truck and we could not get around him, the road is to narrow and I couldn't go into the ditch to get around it. Everyone was gathering around to see what we were going to do. It was quiet embarrassing. Well it was apparent that the only thing to do was go back. So we back down the road a way

Week 11 | Uganda

Image
Week 11 started out with me feeling renewed, refreshed, and with a fresh sense of purpose. You might think by looking at my pictures and weekly blog post that things are always fine and everything is always dandy. But the hard truth is that its not. This might be one of the hardest things for me to admit. I had found myself in some self-denial, unmet expectations, and feeling like I'm not fulfilling God purposes for my life here. Its a real thing. Living in a different place with a different culture and be fun and exciting, don't get me wrong, but doing mission work is less than glamorous. You pour yourself out and sometimes are left feeling empty and needing to be filled yourself. Yet you find that hard to do sometimes when your used to being poured into by so many people and familiar things at home. Satan has so many tactics he uses to make us feel like we're not in the right place.  And then I read this piece of truth spoken by Priscilla Shirer in her book Fervent (

Real Stories from Bukeka | part 1

Image
Since being in Uganda, I've had the privilege to have many people share their story with me and hear many stories of other people in the community of Bukeka. And so I want to begin sharing some of those with you. These stories, and the lives some of these people live hardly seem real, and I'm usually left feeling speechless, heart broken, and like I'm the most spoiled person in the world. It makes me wonder what am I really doing in life when there are these people that find themselves in such terrible situations, when we sit at home in all the luxury and surround ourselves with a happy family and trustworthy friends.  You wonder how these things are even real. Sometimes we hear such stories but don't really know if they actually happen.  And here I see them happen before my very eyes everyday.  I'm unsure of what this particular girls name is, so we shall have a nameless story. Not long ago there was this family in Bukeka, in which it so happened th

Week 10 | Uganda

Week 10, wow. So much happened and so many places! It hard to believe it was all in one week. I'm even trying to remember everything I did because it seems like so long ago. I think the first part of the week I was working in the irrigation field and planting grass. Then also planted some sweetcorn of my own that my grandpa sent with me from home, and so I am anticipating that coming up. The rainy season has begun this side and so the crops we planted are doing very well. It usually rains at night and we still get ample sunlight during the day for perfect growing conditions for the crops. And also for weeds. Weeds are such a problem here, because they just keep growing. So we have been spraying so much and now that the crops are up we will began to hoe the gardens by hand, which is quite a task. Just hanging out having dinner of posho and beans with the girls. The power was still out the beginning of the week so we had dinner at school. But oh it sure is nice to have a w
