Week 4 | Uganda

Image
Well, its coming to a month of being on the other side. And it has really flown by!  Week 4 was a pretty easy going week, and I don't have to much of  an update. But the project this week at Suubi school has been gathering the children together by different classes and helping them write letters to their sponsors.   Its very cute the things they write and draw to their sponsors. They write from their heart and love to share everything. And they also LOVE receiving letters from their sponsors as well.  This letter writing process takes a few days to complete when you have 216 kids. We start out with a rough draft, edit, and then they rewrite once or twice more. Then we scan and email each letter out to the respective sponsors. This happens after each quarter.  One of the common things you will see upon coming to the village of Bukeka is children and woman kneel when they greet a man or when recognize someone with a higher authority than them. Its not a bel

Week 3 | Uganda

Greetings from the other side! Much has happened since I last posted, so this will be more of a picture post update of different things that have happened. My eyes have been opened to some very crazy stories that we would not even think real, and I hope to share some of these in more detail soon. Things we thought happened long ago or can't even comprehend the realness of them still are happening in our world today. Its very sad and disturbing. But I know we serve a big God and that He has a plan for all this poverty. For me its hard to even know where you would begin in dealing with these kinds of issues, but so thankful for the Suubi staff and elders in equipping me in such areas.  Stories that include witchcraft, human sacrificing, child marriages, no work effort, sexual abuse, tribal gods, and long histories of other crazy clan/tribe cultural practices is what were talking about.   Sunset over Suubi  Last Saturday Suubi School had a sports day for all the students.

Back in Bukeka

My longing for this place is finally over. And oh how I've missed Bukeka and all my people here. Its a life changing place indeed.  If you let it .   These people are rich, I tell you. They have something we're missing and it just draws me to them. How do we become so complacent and miss out on the greatest things Jesus offers us?   And if I'm honest with myself I really believe the biggest reason I'm here it to really learn how to be a Christian. To be set in my place. To honestly believe in the power of prayer.  And my prayer is that I can pass this on. The moments God reveals to me.  A common build of  house in the village  Seeing my dear friends and the children nearly made my heart burst with happiness. The sights, smells, orange roads, calls of mzungu, I thought I couldn't smile any bigger. The road/path to the school from the guesthouse Brick making is a common business in the village  Bukeka is a large village about a 1 1/2 hou

Week 1 | Uganda

Good morning from Uganda! It has been a week since the start of this new adventure. But I arrived on the Ugandan soil late Tuesday night. It has been a week of adjustments and new adventures. This past week I have been staying with Ronnie & Ritah Nalera and their sweet family. They are the founders and directors of Global Hands of Hope. We will be heading out to Bukeka where GHoH is located in a few hours. There is a guest house just a short distance from the compound and that is where I will be living. To say I'm excited to be finally heading out there would be an understatement. Heading out! So thankful these 2 wonderful people have joined me for a while, it will be sad to see them go Thursday morning. It is always nice to have someone to travel with.   The equator is not far from Kampala. So we decided to go check it out. But everything depends on traffic around here if you can get somewhere quicker than other times.     I guess I had forgot exactly what happens
